As Easter Sunday approached the volunteers spent the week incorporating Easter based activities into their shifts. These activities ranged from making Easter cards and paper-mache eggs, to egg painting and Easter quizzes. Both the Mikindani and Kikambala boys enjoyed getting involved.

On Good Friday the volunteers joined the boys on a walk around Kikambala with the Crucifix.

To celebrate Easter day, the volunteers spent Easter Saturday with the boys at Kikambala. The boys were taught how to make battered fish, and throughly enjoyed their meal of ugali, fish and potato soup and battered fish. Afterwards the boys taught some volunteers how to make Chapati’s. Both activities proved to be very messy! As the volunteers left, the boys were on their way to buy a goat – it would be their Easter Sunday dinner.

At Mikindani centre

It was a great day at Mikindani on Easter Sunday. The volunteers joined the boys at Mass, which was followed by an impromtu party at the centre. The boys had so much fun showing off their dance moves. The volunteers briefly stopped the dancing for a prize giving ceremony. This was for the boys who came 1st and 2nd in their class in their exams.

The boys were happy to be rewarded for their hard work and was congratulated by all. After this the volunteers took the boys for their Easter Sunday dinner – chips, chapati and chicken. They had such a nice day celebrating Easter with us, it was hopefully one they will never forget.
