First day delivery of fish in Mikindani

First day delivery of the fish in Mikindani

Currently at both centers in Kikambala and Mikindani it has been implemented a nutritious feeding programme that includes vegetables, maize, beans, porridge, bread, biscuits and sometimes meat. However we still want to improve their diet and include fish and milk that has many vitamins and can help in the children’s’ educational performance and physical development.

At Kikambala centre there is a cow shed which has been built and funded by ex volunteers Ann and Angela. I decided that it would be a good idea to bring a dairy cow that will provide milk for the boys every day. I found a dairy cow that can produce 14 liters milk per day and it will be soon at the centre.

Almost a month ago I met with a local fish supplier who owns a factory in Mombasa town, The Crustacean Processons. I talked to him about the aim of Africa Watoto and the importance of nutritious food for to the kids’ health and he kindly offered to support the charity by providing fish every week to both centers for FREE. Last year I was struggling to raise funds to spend on the feeding programme and maintain it for long term but with the help of the Kenyan local suppliers the project is more sustainable.

How it works

Every week – usually Wednesdays- staff from the centre go to the factory, pick up the fish and deliver it to the Mikindani and Kikambala centres. The factory can provide fish from 15 to 20 kg. The project is enabling us to provide ongoing care to the children’s health and well-being.

A Huge THANK YOU to all the sponsors and donors of this project.
