The boys at Kikambala

The boys at Kikambala

This week I went to the centre to introduce to the boys the Young Leaders project. A friend of mine in London, Francesca, who works at Eastside Young Leaders Academy, she kindly introduced me to it so as to use it with the boys at the centre in Kikambala.

Their task is to chose a topic of their choice such as ‘What agriculture has to offer to Kenya? ‘, ‘What science can bring to the future?’ Or choose a topic they have personal interest in. The project can be a written report, a piece of art or a performance.

The aim of this project is to help them take responsibility for an individual task, to develop and improve their learning and perfomance, to extend planning, researching, critical thinking and presentation skills.

Although the boys don’t have many resources at the centre to do a research, I advised them to use the encyclopedias and any books they are available from the library and also ask for help from their teachers.

Only the boys from Class 6,7,8 will participate as it is an advanced project. The most organized, well-thought and well presented projects will be awarded.

Good luck to them!
