Hello everybody,

Juma and RamaFirstly I would like to introduce myself. I am Stella Bili, I was an ex-volunteer at Grandsons of Abraham rescue centre in Mombasa, Kenya and I founded Africa Watoto in July 2009 with the aim to help street children who live at the centre.

I visited Grandsons centre twice and have experienced it at first hand. The impact of not having water and the lack of nutritious food to the children’s health, who live at one of the centres, increased my enthusiasm to help these children. Africa Watoto has been established to help the children in various ways such as providing nutritious food, buying clothes, books, organising events to raise money and raising awareness about street children’s life.

Hi,

Boys at Grandsons studyingThank you to those who sponsored me on the 70 mile cycle ride from Manchester to Blackpool. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Not only was the burning pain in my knees and getting saddle sore, the weather turned where we had gale force winds, rain and sand blown in my face! I struggled on a bike not fit for this distance and I couldn’t get into third gear.

Sharyn at GrandsonsThere are three days to go until the Manchester to Blackpool charity cycle ride. I’ve not done as much training as I would have wished for, however my half marathon training is up to 5 miles so I hope to complete the cycle ride in 5 hours! Wish me luck!! :)

Ben TensmarkI was recently informed that one of the boys at Grandsons who was sent to a secondary school will have to stop school because his sponsor decided to pull out. This is a problem that Grandsons has to deal with often and unfortunately the children are the ones who are loosing emotionally, pshycologically and educationally. Read the rest of this entry »
